LESSON PLANS: LET'S SELF-LEARN HMONG LANGUAGE
for Beginners

​​If you want to learn Hmong by yourself in using the textbooks "Planting a tree", follow these lesson plans to guide you to develp your speaking, comprehension, writing and reading skills in addition to the acquisition of Hmong traditional culture.

INTRODUCTION
The set of textbooks "Planting a Tree" has 7 lessons. For an independent learner, each lesson needs about 3 weeks to one month to complete it.
These books are written for non-Hmong learners. So, there are English translations for most of the exercises. Two glosseries, Hmong-English, and English-Hmong, are placed at the end of the textbook for vocabulary support.

Very important, when you see "LISTEN TO AUDIO FILE" in the books, it means that the lesson section, exercise or activity is recorded. You can listen to it in this webpage. These audio files are free.
If learning Hmong by yourself is really challenging, I strongly encourage you to take a Hmong class.

If you live in California, you can take the beginning course with me at Fresno City College. This is the cheapest place to learn Hmong. For 5 units, the tuition fees are about $200 for the semester. If you have
time conflict, email me.

To improve your fluency, practice what you have learned with your parents, relatives, or Hmong friends, ... . Take any opportunities you have to speak Hmong in order to improve. Don't be shy! Practice is the key for improvement. Learning a language is fun!

Which book is it?

WHITE HMONG/ HMONG DAW
LESSON BOOK: It's the book with a darker blue cover. There are several pictures narrating the story of an orphan who was abandoned, but thanks to the Monkeys, he found a treasure, and came home to live happily ever after.
LAB MANUAL: It's the thin book with a lighter blue cover with one picture in the center. The picture shows the return of the orphan.
